What do tariffs really add to each unit?

Enter what you pay your supplier and what the shipment costs to land. You'll see your landed cost per unit, how much of it is the new tariff, and the price that keeps your margin.

    How this is calculated

Customs value = supplier cost per unit × units. U.S. duty is generally assessed on the transaction value (FOB), so freight and insurance aren't dutiable. If your entry is valued differently, tick "Include freight in the duty basis".

    • Regular duty = customs value × duty rate
    • Additional tariffs = customs value × additional rate
    • MPF = customs value × 0.3464%, kept between the minimum and maximum you enter (formal entries; informal entries under $2,500 pay a smaller flat fee)
    • HMF = customs value × 0.125%, sea shipments only
    • Landed cost per unit = (goods + freight + other fees + duty + tariffs + MPF + HMF) ÷ units
    • Margin = (price − landed cost) ÷ price
    • Price to keep your margin = landed cost ÷ (1 − target margin). A 45% margin means dividing by 0.55, not adding 45%.
    • New tariff per unit = additional tariffs ÷ units. "Margin without the new tariff" removes only that line.

This is an estimate to help you price, not customs, tax or legal advice. Confirm rates for your HTS code with your customs broker or the USITC tariff schedule.
